Overview of L-1 Visa

L-1 visa is available for the Intracompany Transferee Executive or Manager (L-1A type) and for the Intracompany Transferee Professional with Specialized Knowledge (L-1B type) from one of the company’s affiliated foreign offices to the offices in the United States. This classification also enables a foreign company which does not yet have an affiliated US office to send an executive or manager or professional to the United States with the purpose of establishing one.

Eligibility Requirements

1. The US employer must have qualifying relationship with the foreign company (parent company, branch, subsidiary, or affiliate)

2. The US employer currently is, or will be, doing business in the United States and in at least one other country directly or through a qualifying organization for the duration of the transferee’s stay with L-1 visa in the United States.

3. The transferee must have been working for the qualifying organization abroad for at least one continuous year in the preceding three-year period.

4. The purpose of transferee’s entry is to provide services in an executive or managerial capacity (L-1A type) or in a specialized knowledge capacity (L-1B type) in the US operation.
